Clare councillor slams severance payment to Labour minister

A Clare Fine Gael Councillor has described Ministerial Pensions and golden handshakes as "criminal".

Clarecastle representative Paul Murphy has lead local calls for the Finance Minister to disconitnue lump sum payments to Ministers who resign from their posts, following on from the recent resignation of Housing Minister Willie Penrose.

The Midlands TD had been in his cabinet position for just 8 months, but received a 30,000 euro severence payment, even though he voluntarily quit his position in protest over a local issue.
