The efforts of a West Clare community to keep local beaches clean have been recognised at the Clean Coasts’ Ocean Hero Awards.
Freagh Castle Clean Coast group and Clare Water Safety have seen off competition from all over Ireland to win the Clean of the Year Award, for a cleanup which took place near Miltown Malbay earlier this year.
More than 70 people participated, including locals, members of Clare Water Safety, the 15th Miltown Scouts, Clare County Council, representatives from An Taisce, and Miltown Malbay Tidy Towns Committee.
Clare County Council's Environmental Awareness Officer Karen Foley says the win is fitting tribute to the efforts of all involved.
