It’s claimed the rug has been pulled out from under artists in Ennis with the revision of plans for an iconic town centre building.
Clare County Council declared its intention last month to submit a new proposal for a dedicated Ennis Friary visitor experience in the Cloister building on Lower Abbey Street.
An online petition launched in recent days calling for the retention of the original plans – which consisted of artist studios, workshop and classroom space, a café and a mixed-use exhibition or event space – has already garnered over 100 signatures.
Ennis-based visual artist Ana Colomer says there was much excitement in the community when the initial vision for the project was announced.
