A Clare Animal Shelter has been forced to close due to a viral outbreak.
The An Cat Dubh Sanctuary in Miltown Malbay has taken the decision after blood tests confirmed a group of cats and kittens on its premises died due to Panleucopaenia.

Feline panleucopenia is a highly contagious, potentially fatal disease which attacks white blood cells, early signs include sudden high fever, profound lethargy, and total loss of appetite which can progress to severe vomiting and foul-smelling diarrhea.
In a statement, An Cat Dubh Sanctuary says it’s accepting no admissions, visitors or re-homing requests until further notice and that it is working to establish the origin of the virus.
