Clare Advocate Calls for Disability-Friendly Housing Reform

A Clare disability rights activist is calling on the Government to recognise the need to view the housing needs of disabled people in the same way as those of able-bodied people.

It comes as the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission has warned that urgent action is needed to better protect disabled people from violence, abuse and neglect in institutional settings.

Ennistymon-based political advocate Anne-Marie Flanagan says if the State is serious about independent living, all houses should be designed to facilitate the needs of people with disabilities.
