It’s being argued new parking rules for a West Clare tourism hotspot will make it “even more attractive” and provide further support to the local economy.
New bye-laws which will see pay-and-display parking all-year-round in Kilkee have been approved by local elected representatives at a special meeting of the West Clare Municipal District.
The draft bye-laws went out to public consultation on May 28th, with June 29th being the closing date for submissions.
The proposal sought to introduce pay-and-display parking through the year rather than restrict it to the tourist season as has been the case until now.
Under the new bye-laws, a designated area for camper vans will be established, with campers prohibited from parking anywhere outside of this space.
The maximum period for a campers to stay in this area will be 24 hours.
At a special meeting of the West Clare MD, local elected representatives have agreed to adopt the draft bye-laws.
Doonbeg Fianna Fáil Councillor Rita McInerney believes it’s a positive for the town.
Just four submissions were received during the public consultation process.
Having been approved by elected members this week, the bye-laws will come into effect on September 1st.
