The Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council remains confident that additional funding for a proposed new library in Ennis will be made available.
It comes as 1 million euro has been granted for the development under a Government urban regeneration programme.
The new county library in Ennis will be located on a site next to Glór theatre, replacing the existing 40 year-old building on Harmony Row, which its claimed has outgrown its capacity to function as a modern library.
The 8.5 million euro development will contain three separate library services with a focus on community cohesion, cultural integration and support to the economic and social activity of the town.
Today, the facility is one step closer to becoming a reality following the announcement of 1 million euro in funding under the Southern Regional Assembly’s Operational Programme, which supports sustainable urban development.
Clare County Council have applied for additional funding under the Capital Funding Programme for Public Libraries and Cathaoirleach Councillor James Breen says he's confident that funding will be granted.
An additional 400,000 euro has been granted towards the development of the proposed Shannon Town Park.
Clare's Labour TD Michael McNamara says the funding will be used to improve the layout of the town.
