Calls have been made for a full review of planning permission guidelines along Clare’s national secondary routes.
In August 2023, the Department of Housing removed a special exemption from Clare’s county development plan that allowed one-off homes on the N67,N68 and N85.

The controversial decision was made due to road safety concerns, but this could now be reversed due to the ongoing speed limit review of national secondary routes.
Kilrush Independent Councillor Ian Lynch believes developments should be assessed on a case by case basis.
