Calls have been made for a residential detox centre, a possible methadone clinic and other drug treatment services in Clare to tackle a major increase in the use of heroin locally.
Ennis Town Council is to seek coroners reports to determine the number of deaths associated with drugs and alcohol in the town after Councillors expressed concerns about the rise in drug use locally and fears regarding the loss of young lives.
Last evening’s discussion followed recent reports from a local drug treatment centre in Ennis which highlighted a 400% increase in the number of people seeking treatment for drug addiction.
Local Councillor Paul O’Shea says the authorities, including the Town Council, need to know the full extent of the drugs problem in Ennis and an increase in services to tackle the problem is of urgent need
