The family of the late Ennis woman Laura Brennan are appealing to parents of teenagers in secondary schools to avail of the HPV vaccine programmes within their schools, on the week that would have been the HPV advocate’s 33rd birthday.
The traditional vaccine is available to young boys and girls in their first year of secondary school, while those under 25 who have missed out, can can currently avail of the jab through the “Laura Brennan Catch-up Programme”.
The Government has set 2040 as the target date for the elimination of cervical cancer in Ireland.
In a statement, the Brennan family say they believe it’s critical that sufficient support is given to HPV vaccination programme to maximise uptake and protect future generations and they’re encouraging the Government to continue expanding existing programmes to meet the 2040 target.
