Breen Highlights Importance Of Clare’s Location For Data Centres In Apple Fallout

Clare’s Junior Data Minister is highlighting the importance of Clare’s strategic position as a location for data centres in the wake of Apple’s decision to pull out of Athenry.

The tech giant has abandoned plans to establish a major €850 million euro centre in the Galway town, citing the delays in the approval process as the reason.

The plans saw massive backlash from some, with concern over the environmental impact, though in a statement Apple reiterated a commitment to its Irish operations.

Clare County Council recently sought expressions of interest from landowners in identifying sites for data centres in this county – a move Fine Gael’s Pat Breen says will be key going forward.
