April Unemployment Hits 24-Year Low In Clare

Unemployment in the month of April has hit a 24-year-low in Clare.

The latest Live Register data reveals the number of people availing of unemployment benefit dropped to its lowest point for April since 2002 last month.

A total of 3,530 people received a social welfare payment in Clare in April of this year.

This was down 8% on the same month last year and was the lowest figure recorded for the month in question since 2002 when 3,424 people were signing on here.

53% of those on the Live Register in Clare last month collected their payments in Ennis while 17% were in Kilrush, 16% were in Ennistymon and 13% were in Tulla.

Countywide, 54% of recipients were male while 12% of those on the register were under the age of 25.
