It's claimed the amalgamation of Shannon College of Hotel Management with NUI Galway secures its future in the publically funded third level sector.
The Minister for Education is in Shannon today to mark the official incorporation of the Shannon College, which has been in existance here for 64 years, into the Galway University.
Shannon College of Hotel Management was founded in 1951 and is both nationally and internationally reknowned with 100 per cent of its students going straight into employment.
There have already been some links between the college and NUIG over the past two decades but today marks the official incorporation into the Galway university.
It's now the first college dedicated to hotel management within an Irish University and plans are already in place for further development of facilities which will facilitate research and post graduate education.
Head of shannon College of Hotel Management, Dr Philip Smith says the merger will secure the future of the college.
