The Agriculture Minister is being urged to investigate the case of a group of South Galway farmers whose single farm payments have been slashed.
The group of eight farmers had their single farm payments cut or eliminated by Department of Agriculture officials after they declared their commonage land in Keelderry, near the Clare border, wasn’t fit for grazing.
They appeared before the European Parliament’s Petitions Committee, where Fine Gael North and West MEP Jim Higgins agreed with them in arguing there was no justification for the withdrawal of the payments.
