The Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill has passed the Dáil by 127 votes to 31.

The abortion legislation was not without its casualties though.
Fine Gael Junior Minister Lucinda Creighton has resigned from her position and the party after voting against the Bill – and Paschal Donohoe has been appointed the new Minister for European Affairs.

Sinn Féin’s suspended one of its TDs for his votes on the abortion bill.
Peadar Toibin voted against his party’s stance on a series of votes, including several on removing the suicide clause.
The Meath West TD has now been suspended from the party for six months with immediate effect.
