194 people have been arrested on suspicion of rape or sexual assault in Clare in the past ten years.
New figures released by the Department of Justice show 15 individuals were arrested for the offences in this county in 2021.
The figures were released to the Oireachtas by Justice Minister Helen McEntee following a parliamentary question from Aontu Deputy Peadar Toibin.
They show 194 people were arrested in the Clare Garda Division on suspicion of either rape or sexual assault since 2011, and levels have remained fairly static over the past decade.
Numbers have consistently hit double figures here in the past ten years.
Though they fell to a low of 11 people arrested for one or both of the offences back in 2014, figures jumped to a decade-high of 26 a year later.
Arrests for sexual offences have fallen by nearly a third since 2019 in the Clare Garda Division.
The Justice Minister says work to implement a plan supporting victims of such crimes is already underway, including a framework being developed at the University of Limerick to train intermediaries.
