The Government is being urged to “step up to the mark” and properly fund road maintenance in Clare.

It comes as almost 180 applications for road improvements across two different schemes in Clare are awaiting funding due to a major “backlog” within Clare County Council’s Roads, Environment and Water Services Department.

The backlog has been attributed to the schemes being “oversubscribed”, delays in the announcement of the Government funding allocation and incelement weather preventing works from taking place.
