MORNING FOCUS FRIDAY 14TH NOVEMBER

MORNING FOCUS FRIDAY 14TH NOVEMBER

With 2014 being described as a "black year" for farm safety, the body in charge of enforcing workplace safety is to be given sweeping new powers. Farmers can be prosecuted for a series of farm safety measures under sweeping new powers available to the Health and Safety Authority (HSA). Pat Griffin HSA senior inspector with the health and safety authority and Martin McMahon Clare chair of ICMSA were on hand to discuss the issue with John

Mother and daughter Edel and Naomi Harvey, who recently walked Kilimanjaro,   joined John in Studio this morning, whilst on top of the mountain they unveiled an anti water charges banner which then went viral and was picked up in the national press.

Around 350,000 Irish people are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes over the next 20 years and do not even know it. Despite repeated warnings to move to a healthier lifestyle, many people are ignoring the warnings and are then surprised when they are diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes or suffer a heart attack or stroke or similar. Pauline Dunne dietician and regional development officer with Diabetes marked  world Diabetes day with John.

As always on a Friday our panel was in studio to run the rule over the week's events with John. This week our panel included Paul Madden of Temple gate hotel, Patricia McCarthy a former member of Clare County Council and Bernie Ruan former President of the TUI and Deputy chair of the teaching council.

Finally for these weeks Morning Focus we looked at events happening around the county over the weekend we spoke to Niall Barry Chief Executive of Hope Ireland about their Christmas shoebox appeal and Helen Cunningham  of the Doonbeg one act drama festival which takes place from Saturday 15th to Monday 17th of November.
