First up today on Morning Focus, we heard from Megan Reilly, President of NUI Galway Students’ Union on how sexual predators are targeting college students.
This comes after reports that three female college students in Cork were raped since the start of the university term.
Then, Independent Councillors Emmet O’Brien and Councillor Ian Lynch spoke about the impact of drugs on our communities with towns in West Clare being described as ‘awash with cocaine.’
Sarah O’Brien who is the national lead on the HSE START campaign. The campaign encourages both parents and children to put their screens away and become more active.
In the second hour of the show Dr Máire Finn of Ennis Family Medical Centre joined us for our regular segment ‘Ask the GP.’ Today’s topic focused on looking after your joints.

After this, NUI Galway law lecturer and political columnist Larry Donnelly discussed the the Presidential election asking ‘Is Michael D Higgins unbeatable in the race for the Áras?’ He examined the possible tactics that could be used by the other five candidates in their attempts to unseat Michael D.
The last hour began with the regular ‘Morning Focus book club.’ This week on the panel was Teresa Carmody O’Shea and Dolores Meaney, both from the De Valera Library, Ennis. They reviewed ‘Small Great Things’ by Jodi Picoult.

Clare FM’s resident music guru Brian Flynn presented his segment on ‘the greatest song you’ve probably never heard.’
Actor John Ruddy joined us on air to tell us about a new touring production which will hit Glór Theatre, Ennis on October 4. This will be the twenty-five year anniversary production of Frank McCabe’s ‘Frank Pig Says Hello.’
The final item of the show was our weekly segment ‘Ask the Vet’ with John Underhill from Burren Vets, Ennistymon. John answered a range of livestock and pet-related questions.
