Plans for Clare’s first ever 24 hour gym are moving one step closer to fruition.
Clare County Council has given the green light for the facility to be developed in Ennis.
John Costelloe first lodged an application for a 24 hour gym at the Clare Road Mall at Toberteascáin last November.
The facility, which will be operated by Anytime Fitness is set to have a dedicated free weights area, what’s described as a strength area, cardio and functional sections, a personal trainer’s office and a recovery area.
The plans also include a canteen, locker rooms, and showers and toilets, including wheelchair accessible units.
During the planning process two submissions were made from neighbouring businesses on the complex, with one raising concerns over traffic management and another directly beneath lodging an objection over concerns relating to noise and vibration pollution, parking capacity and traffic safety and security risks arising from 24/7 access to the building.
In January, Clare County Council requested further information on the project and ordered the applicant to provide an independent review from an acoustic consultant confirming that its proposed mitigation measures would be sufficient.
Planning permission was ultimately granted subject to seven conditions including that the approved noise management plan is implemented and maintained for the lifetime of the development.
