11% Of All Ukrainian Arrivals To Ireland Now Based In Clare

11% of all Ukrainian arrivals in this country are based in Clare.

New figures from the CSO show 2,288 Personal Public Service Numbers have been issued to individuals from the war torn country under the Temporary Protection Directive, with more than 1,100 of those in North Clare.

It comes amid calls for enhanced state support for rural areas acomodating large numbers of refugees.

The Central Statistics Office has today published data on arrivals from Ukraine based on those availing of supports and services from the Department of Social Protection.

There have been 2,288 Ukrainian arrivals to Clare since May 22nd, with the largest portion of those in the Ennistymon electoral area, where 1,118 are based.

In addition, there have been 263 PPSNs issued in West Clare, 255 in Shannon, 48 in Killaloe and 604 in the Ennis electoral area.

It means that as of May 22nd, 11% of all Ukrainian arrivals to Ireland are based in Clare, which is more than twice the number than in all of Limerick City and County.

It comes amid fresh calls for enhanced State support for rural areas of Clare that are accommodating significant numbers of arrivals.

A number of hotels across Clare are accommodating refugees, with a significant voluntary effort to enhance services underway in many areas.

Lisdoonvarna-based Fine Gael Councillor Joe Garrihy says further supports are needed for all members of the community in this county.

The Minister for Rural and Community Development says every step will be taken to overcome challenges in areas like Lisdoonvarna.

Minister Heather Humphreys recently visited the North Clare town and has commended the steps taken by the local community to integrate the new arrivals.
