North Clare Councillor Says ‘Welcome Mat’ Will Continue To Be Open To Ukrainian Refugees Despite Challenges

A North Clare Councillor insists people in this county will continue to roll out the ‘welcome mat’ for Ukrainian refugees despite challenges in providing adequate services for them.

There are estimated to be around 2,200 Ukrainian nationals now in this county, with many situated in hotel accommodation in traditional tourist areas near coastal locations.

A memo understood to have been recently seen by members of the Cabinet warned of a potential breakdown in social cohesion over the coming months as further refugees enter the country.
