The offence of “coercive control” is to be included in the forthcoming Domestic Violence Bill 2017. It will allow prosecutions of people who create an ongoing threatening atmosphere within a relationship, even in the absence of violence or overt threats of violence. Catriona Gleeson from Safe Ireland discussed why this is so important in the prosecution of domestic abusers.
