The level of overcrowding at University Hospital Limerick has spiralled once again heading into the weekend.

The latest analysis from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show there were 106 patients waiting for beds at the Dooradoyle facility during morning rounds, 42 of those in the Emergency Department.

The overall figure is double that of the next busiest facility; Galway University Hospital, where 50 patients were left waiting on trolleys, and represents close to a quarter of all those waiting for beds at hospitals across the country.
