Historic 1917 East Clare By-Election Celebrated In Ennis

The historic 1917 East Clare by-election has been celebrated in Ennis this Sunday afternoon, 100 years after Eamon de Valera’s election.

Over four hundred people attended an event at glór which included lectures on the Long Fellow, with Fianna Fail leader Michael Martin and de Valera’s grandaughter Síle de Valera addressing those who attended, as well as Clare’s Fianna Fáíl TD Timmy Dooley.

A procession then made its way from glór to the O’Connell monumnet where a recreation of some of Dev’s most famous speeches was made.
