The Mayor of Clare has described as “insulting” and “predatory”, the approach by the Dublin Airport Authority, following confirmation that the Ryder Cup is to be hosted in the Midwest.
The golfing tournament, which is one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world, will be held at Adare Manor in Limerick seven years’ time, promising a multi-million euro boost for the entire region.
Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, Cathal Crowe says its unacceptable that Dublin is trying to position itself as the airport for the Midwest, following a tweet claiming the facility in the capital is the gateway to Ireland for the Ryder Cup.
Councillor Crowe has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that he’ll be raising the matter with Dublin Airport’s management.

Meanwhile, a South Clare Tourism provider believes additional funding should be provided to Shannon Airport ahead of the golfing tournament.
Maurice Walsh from Durty Nelly’s in Bunratty also says that now is the time for key stakeholders in the region to start planning
