Claims Shutting Rail Lines Would Close Down Rural Ireland

An Ireland South MEP claims any rail line closures would effectively be “shutting down rural Ireland”.

It follows recent reports closing four routes – including the Ennis to Athenry one – would help Irish Rail stay afloat.

Iarnróid Éireann is calling on the government to invest in the rail network to save it, amid what it calls a ‘perilous financial situatio’ for the company.
