Clarecare’s Annual Report Hits Out At Underfunding Of Care Sector

A report published by Clare’s largest not-for-profit agency has criticised the government for under-funding of the sector.

Clarecare’s annual report for 2018 has found that those working in the industry have found it extremely difficult to comply with the policies governing their work with the level of funding provided.

Not for the first time, Clarecare’s annual report has drawn attention to the challenge of compliance for their sector.

The publication states that in order to employ Policies and Procedures specialists to remain up to date, among other issues, they need increased levels of finance to be provided to them.

However, it goes on to say that despite repeated requests for more support, no extra funding has been made available to cover those increased costs.

Outgoing General Manager of the service Fiacre Hensey says the situation is not unique to Clarecare and says despite compliance being necessary, it’s important that help is forthcoming when asked for.

Last year alone, Clarecare provided just shy of 280,000 hours of home care service, along with over 13,500 meals provided in its centres in Ennis, Ennistymon and Killaloe.

That’s an increase of almost a quarter in the number of meals provided the previous year.
