The show opened this Friday with a word from Shannon-based Vice President of the NAGP, Dr Yvonne Williams. In light of new figures showing that hundreds of lives can be saved every year if young women and girls get the HPV vaccine, Dr Yvonne called for a far greater uptake than the current rate of 50 percent.

In light of yesterday’s discussion of the Domestic Violence Bill, the show then returned to the topic. This time Gavin spoke with Miriam Duffy of the Rape Crisis Network Midwest who explained what members of the public, friends and family can do if they suspect someone is the victim of this crime. With Darkness into Light taking place across the county this weekend, Gavin previewed some of the events in Clare with Tom McEvoy from Pieta House.

The show then heard the moving story of Geraldine McCarthy who hails from Ballynacally. In light of the forthcoming Adoption Bill, she told Gavin her concerns about how people seeking their birth parents are treated in this country. Listen back below:

James Murrihy of Clare Sports Partnership was Gavin’s next guest. He joined the show to highlight a number of sports events taking place next week to encourage access to activity for those with disabilities.

Siobhán Mulcahy, Clare County Arts Officer, joined Gavin as always on a Friday to look ahead to events in the Banner County for the weekend and the week ahead.

Michael Byrne from Rotary in Ennis then joined the show to preview a charity bowling event in support of Cuan Chláir and Clare Youth Service. The Annual Charity Bowling Night takes place on Thursday, May 11 at Clare Leisure World from 6pm.
