Environment Minister Rules Out Dedicated Moneypoint Taskforce

The Environment Minister has effectively ruled out the establishment of a dedicated taskforce to oversee the transition of Moneypoint’s operations.

Clare TDs Timmy Dooley and Joe Carey have raised the potential 100 job losses at the West Clare power station in the Dáil.

A meeting between the ESB and Clare’s Oireachtas members yesterday saw no further clarity on the jobs issue, which the ESB has refused to comment on.

Now, they want a taskforce to be set up, to manage the transition to renewable energy at Moneypoint, to support the workers there and to help secure the economic future of West Clare.

But Minister Richard Bruton is satisfied with the existing supports:

Meanwhile, a special meeting of Councillors from the West Clare Municipal District, focused on the impact of the job losses at Moneypoint, will take place next week.
