Large Drop In Couples Tying The Knot In Clare Last Year

There were over a hundred fewer marriages celebrated in Clare last year than in 2022.

Newly published CSO figures show there was a 25% reduction in Roman Catholic Ceremonies here alone.

A total of 603 couples tied the knot in Clare last year, representing a drop of 17.5% from the 732 recorded in 2022.

There were 305 Roman Catholic Marriages in this county last year, which was an annual drop of 25%.

There were six fewer Non-denominational ceremonies , falling to 193, while there were also slight declines in Humanist and Spiritualist nuptials, falling to 68 and 28 respectively.

Same-sex marriages also dropped marginally in Clare, reducing from twelve ceremonies to nine.

According to the results, a Friday in September is now the most popular time for a marriage in Clare.
