Clare Senior Hurling Quarter-Final AET Scariff: 3-19 – Clooney-Quin 1-22
Scariff find themselves just one step on the ladder away from their first Clare Senior Hurling final in twenty-eight years after a tour de-force from county star Mark Rodgers in Cusack Park.
By the time the half-time whistle blew in the county grounds, the Scariff ace had already found the back of Clooney-Quin netminder Cathal Hannon’s net twice to carve out a 2-08 to 0-09 advantage.
On the restart, however it was the turn of Clooney-Quin’s star attraction to lead the charge as four Peter Duggan scores either side of contributions from Mike McNamara and a Darragh Keogh 65 metre free in the dying moments levelled the sides at the end of regulation time on a score line of 0-18 to 2-12.
However the third installment was once again the Scariff show and fronted by two quick fire points from Patrick Crotty in the opening minute, Rodgers would complete his hat-trick on 63 minutes to see the East Clare side well into the ascendancy approaching the break.
In the final period, Scariff netminder William Kavanagh made a number of key interventions in the goalmouth, collecting and clearing a wealth of potentially dangerous delivery’s bound for Peter Duggan on the edge of the square.
Ultimately Clooney-Quin would eventually breach the Scariff rear guard with the final puck of the contest through a 21 metre free, however the goal would prove to be little more than consolation.
As it finished in Cusack Park on a full time score of Scariff 3-19 to Clooney-Quin 1-22.
3-12 of the winning total was struck from the stick of Mark Rodgers who will hope to help his side into their first county final appearance since 1998.
