Avenue United have moved to the top of the standings of the Clare Premier Division following a boardroom controversy.

It centred around an objection by the Ennis club against the registration of a player with Sporting Ennistymon, who did not meet the required international clearance.

The ruling in favour of the objection by the Clare League, following guidance by the FAI, means that Avenue gain two extra points, having drawn with Sporting Ennistymon in recent weeks.

It moves the Ennis side one point clear of Newmarket at the head of the standings, with those two sides still set to meet in a title deciding showdown in a few weeks time.
