A former Clare hurling captain is to be remembered with his name being enshrined on the new cup for the TUS Clare intermediate hurling championship.
The cup will carry the name of former O’Callaghan’s Mills and Bodyke star Pappy O’Callaghan.
Born in O’Callaghan’s Mills, Pappy O’Callaghan’s hurling legacy endured across 19 years at senior level for Clare, lining out for the county from 1933 to 1952.
He captained Clare in the 1938 Munster final, and won a National League medal with the Banner in 1946.
He led his native club to county honours in 1937, and added another title to his name in his new parish of Bodyke in 1947.
He also lined at full back for Munster and won Railway Cup titles in 1939 and 1948, playing alongside legends of the game like the Mackey’s, Jack Lynch and Christy Ring.

The move came about following the decision to introduce a new tier for club hurling in Clare this year, with the Premier Intermediate and Intermediate championships to be played.
The Paddy Browne Cup will be presented to the winners of the Premier championship, with the intermediate winners being presented with the Pappy O’Callaghan Cup.
The cup will be formally presented to the county board at the next meeting of delegates.
