In an historic first National Senior Final for Clare's camogie side, it was their opponents who started strongest and pulled away to a 0-9 to 0-2 half-time lead.

Deirdre Murphy scored both of the Banner's first-half points – one from play – but Clare never led.

Denise Naule and Miriam Walsh were among the Kilkenny players who impressed as they pulled away before the break.

A long-range Chloe Moey free for Clare opened the secondhalf scoring, but Kilkenny then rattled off 1-6 without reply.

The goal was well-taken by forward Aoife Neary, though Clare had the last say on the scoreboard, as Murphy scored her third match of the point.

The game finished 1-15 to 0-4.
