Munster MFC: Clare 1-22 Waterford 1-10
Clare made it back to back wins in the Munster minor football championship with a merited 12 point win over Waterford in Lemybrien.
Much of the plaudits will go to a virtuoso display from Conor Burke after the Kilmurry Ibrickane clubman ended the game with a personal tally of 0-17, including a brace of two pointers.
Clare set their stall out early as Cathal McNamara intercepted a short Deise restart to slot home, with Clare posting 1-10 before Waterford got their first score.
The Banner led 1-12 to 0-2 at half time, with Burke kicking 0-10 of his tally in the opening period along with scores from McNamara and Ajay Daly.
Waterford mounted a spirited comeback in the third quarter and outscored their visitors by 1-4 to 0-3 by the 45th minute.
Clare’s middle third, led by captain Donnacha O’Dwyer, turned the tide of the contest once more to give the Banner forward line the platform to continually punish Deise indiscretions.
Clare’s dominance told in the closing stages as Burke built his incredible tally to give them a second win in 7 days.
With a + 20 scoring difference going into the final round against Tipperary, it leaves Clare in pole position for a place in the Phase One final and a spot in Phase Two of the championship.
