The Wolfe Tones’ Electric Picnic Appearance

On Wednesday’s Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey was joined by Brian Warfield from The Wolfe Tones.

Billie Eilish, The Killers and Niall Horan may have been some of the big names at this year’s Electric Picnic, but it was the Wolfe Tones who, rather surprisingly, proved to be the biggest hit at the festival.

The band, who have been going for some 60 years, played to the biggest crowd in Electric Picnic’s Electric Arena in the festival’s history.

However, the Wolfe Tones’ attracting such a huge crowd for their set has caused plenty of controversy and debate.

There have been suggestions from some that so many young people singing along to the band’s rebel songs is running the risk of romanticising the Troubles and the actions of the IRA.
