World Gynaecological Oncology Day

On Wednesday’s Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey was joined by Anne Murphy, Patient Representative in INGO and Cancer Support Nurse at Sláinte an Chláir in Co. Clare.

Today is World Gynecological Oncology Day.

The aim of World Gynecological Oncology Day is to raise awareness about all five gynecological cancers – ovarian, cervical, uterine, vulva and vaginal – and their risk factors.

In the Republic of Ireland, over 1400 gynecological cancers are diagnosed annually, representing over 12% of female cancers.

Anne mentioned the importance of screening and the recent research survey that highlighted the lack of knowledge people have on cervical screening.

She also discussed the importance of speaking to a doctor if you are displaying any symptoms of cervical cancer.
