Killaloe Tennis Coach To Lead First Irish Blind Tennis Team

On Friday’s Morning Focus, Alan Morrissey was joined by tennis coach, Wesley O’Brien.

Wesley a Killaloe native, will be at the helm of the Irish Blind and Visually Impaired Tennis team that is getting ready to head to the UK to compete in the World Blind Sports Games.

The event takes place every four years and this year it will be hosted in Birmingham, England from the 23rd to the 27th of August.

Wesley discussed how blind tennis came to be so popular and was introduced into the World Blind Sports Games.

He also told us how he became involved in the blind tennis programme and highlighted that he has been asked to take charge and manage the first ever Irish Blind and Visually Impaired Tennis team.

Wesley explained the amount of preparation and training that was done for the upcoming competition and outlined the amount of support the team has received from the public, even the President has wished them luck.
