Tourism and Hospitality
Welcome to this week’s episode of The Future of Work on Clare FM.
The tourism and hospitality sector in Ireland has seen dramatic changes in recent years mainly driven by economic conditions, a shortage of labour and ever changing visitor preferences.
The global pandemic also left its mark while current geopolitical influences are likely to make this year even more challenging than 2025.
Michael Vaughan’s father owned the Aberdeen Arms hotel in Lahinch and it was here Michael began his career in hospitality as a teenager.
After school, he went on to study hotel management and later worked for some big hotel brands, including Jury’s where he was international sales manager. He also worked in the five star Dromoland Castle Hotel in Co Clare.
Michael has seen many changes during his 40 years in the industry and even when he returned to Lahinch to open his own hotel, it wasn’t as easy has he might have expected.
Michael Vaughan, is a former president of the Irish Hotels Federation and owner of Vaughan Lodge Hotel in Lahinch, Co Clare.
