Ennis Man Refused Transition Pension Payment Despite Having Four Times The Necessary Contributions

Michael Corry was in touch with the show during the week in relation to the new social welfare payment for those aged 65 who are no longer employed.

The payment has been hailed as the transition to the state pension, which can be claimed once you reach the age of 66.

Michael has worked from the age of 18 and took early retirement aged 60 in 2016. In this time he made over 2,000 contributions towards his state pension.

However, he has now been told that despite having more than the required contributions, he doesn’t qualify for the payment when he turns 65 as he needs 13 contributions from 2017.
