East Clare Golf Club Defies €1 Million Debt To Stay Open

A Clare golf club has defied the odds by overcoming serious financial difficulties to keep the course operational.

Member owned, East Clare Golf Club in Bodyke, experienced a sharp decline in membership in the wake of the Covid pandemic, resulting in the club owing debts of €1 million.

The club’s debt was written off by four contributors to keep the golf course operational and in the space of three years, enough funds were raised to clear the club of all debt.

Chairman of marketing committee of the East Clare Golf Club, Nick Ryan, says there was serious fears the club would have to be liquidated.
