Council Pauses Plans To Demolish Controversial Francis Street Houses

At Tuesday’s Ennis Municipal District meeting, Director of Service Carmel Kirby revealed that the local authority has paused plans to demolish six properties on Francis Street in Ennis in the wake of a demonstration by the Francis Street Alliance and local community. Clare FM Journalist Peter O’Connell spoke to Carmel regarding the decision. She stated that the concern of the public was taken into consideration when pausing the plans and that Clare County Council will outline potential ideas for the Francis Street houses in early winter 2023. Alan Morrissey also spoke to Tommy Guilfoyle who is a Member of Ennis Sinn Fein Cumann and Spokesperson for the Francis Street Alliance. Tommy described his delight with the council pausing their plans but believes that the Francis Street Alliance must continue to voice their opinion in order for the council to completely overturn their decision.
