The dominance of male councillors in Clare looks set to be continued on June fifth, according to the final list of confirmed candidates for the local elections.
A total of 116 candidates have put themselves forward to contest elections to Town Councils in Ennis, Shannon, Kilrush and Kilkee as well as Clare County Council, following confirmation from returning officers around the county and just 22 of the 116 candidates are women.

Clare County Council has only two outgoing women councillors, one of whom is not contesting the upcoming elections, and with just 6 female candidates among the 59 names put forward for 32 seats, the male female imbalance looks set to go on.
