West Clare Woman Praises Priests Who Have Spoken Out About Women’s Rights

A West Clare woman is applauding the courage of twelve priests who have spoken out for women's rights within the Church.

The group has called for and end to what they've described as the "systematic oppression of women within the Catholic Church".

They say the example given by the Church in discriminating against women "encourages and reinforces abuse and violence against women in many cultures and societies".

It follows a movement in the Killaloe last year which saw calls for women to have greater inclusively within the diocese.

Speaking on this programme, Kathleen McDonnell of Cross Parish says there's huge support for change but she believes people are afraid to speak out.
