US Vice President confirms trip to Ireland

The Vice President of the United States is to visit Ireland later this year.

Joe Biden’s trip was announced at his residence in Washington DC – where he hosted a St Patrick’s Day event for the Taoiseach today.

It will be the first official visit to Ireland by Vice President Biden – who is five eights Irish.

Meanwhile Enda Kenny leaves Washington today and travels to the West coast for talks with movie director Stephen Spielberg.

The Taoiseach will use the meeting to discuss the prospect of using Ireland as a location for more films.

A visit to West Clare could be on the cards for US President Barack Obama, should he return to Ireland.

Clare Fine Gael TD Pat Breen says the President has indicated an interest in following in the footsteps of predecessor Bill Clinton and playing at Doonbeg Golf Club.

President Obama made the comments during the  function to mark the annual St. Patrick’s Day visit to the White House by the Taoiseach, at which Deputy Breen was present.
