US Officials Looking To Expand Pre-Clearance Facilities To New Airports

Shannon and Dublin could lose their status as the only airports in Europe offering pre-clearance for the US.

The US Secretary of Homeland Security says they're entering into negotiations with 10 others around the world that could also provide the service, including Heathrow and Manchester.

The system means air passengers can clear US customs and security before actually arriving in the States, allowing them to avoid lengthy queues.

Shannon became the first European Airport to offer full pre-clearance to passengers in 2009.
