Uisce Éireann Welcomes High Court Decision On Kilkee Wastewater Treatment Plant

Uisce Éireann has welcomed a High Court decision upholding planning permission for a new wastewater treatment plant in Kilkee.

The utility says the project will end the long-standing discharge of raw sewage into Intrinsic Bay and provide the town with modern wastewater infrastructure for the future.

The High Court has also refused leave to appeal the planning decision to the Court of Appeal.

Uisce Éireann says the project will help protect water quality and the local marine environment, while supporting future development in Kilkee.

However, the plans have faced opposition locally, with concerns raised about the proposed location and the potential impact of the development.

Uisce Éireann says it recognises there are differing views about the project and will continue to engage with local residents, community groups and elected representatives.

It says the project has been subject to detailed technical, environmental and planning assessments and has received the necessary statutory approvals.

The utility says it will now focus on progressing the project while maintaining open and constructive communication with the local community.
