Nurses say 57 people were left waiting for beds at the region’s main hospital today.

The latest figures from the INMO show there were 39 people on trolleys in the emergency department at University Hospital Limerick this morning, while a further 18 are being accomodated in overflow areas of wards.

It follows high numbers of patients attending the ED over the weekend, which led to the UL Hospitals Group appealing to people to reserve the emergency department for emergencies only.
