US President Donald Trump says his decision to remove tariffs on Irish whiskey will not apply across the EU.
During the Irish Open trophy presentation in Doonbeg, President Trump announced that the current 10 per cent tariff on Irish whiskey would be lifted.
The move brings Irish whiskey into line with UK whisky – including Scotch and whiskey produced in Northern Ireland – which already enters the US tariff-free.
Speaking at Shannon Airport before boarding Air Force One last night, President Trump confirmed the exemption would apply only to Ireland.
Meanwhile, the arrival of US President, Donald Trump, generated mixed emotions from those in attendance at the Amgen Irish Open.
The 45th and 47th President of the United States arrived in Doonbeg just after 3pm on Saturday following meetings with President Catherine Connolly and Taoiseach Michael Martin earlier that morning.
The majority of supporters were unphased by his arrival choosing to focus on solely the golf, however, there was some visible support for Trump out on course with some patrons wearing ‘Make America Great Again’ hats.
